HARTFORD, Conn. — Men Standing Up Against Violence, Hearts of Gold CT and the Greater Hartford NAACP came together this weekend to host their annual end-of-summer cookout — a day filled with unity, joy and purpose.
Held behind the Wilson-Gray YMCA in Hartford’s North End, the Unity in Our Community Cookout was about more than just food and fun. It served as a message of hope, healing and prevention, especially for Hartford’s youth.
“We want to show them that we really care for ’em and that we trying to make a difference in their environment ,” said George Davis with Men Standing Up Against Violence. “We trying to, you know, get them to come here with the kids, eat and enjoy and let them know there's more to life than what they see and hear and read about.”
