ETOWAH COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Etowah County Commission has said they will begin directly providing Emergency Management Services to the citizens of Etowah County in partnership with local municipalities.
The commission established the Etowah County EMA in 1984, but services were provided through the Gadsden-Etowah EMA. Those services will now move in-house.
They said plans are underway to appoint an agency director, establish new offices, and open an Emergency Operations Center at the Etowah County Courthouse.
Officials say during the transition, Sheriff Jonathon Horton will serve as interim EMA director. We’re also told 911 Director Wil Reed and Etowah 911’s resources will continue supporting EMA operations, both short and long-term.
