If you have noticed the cost of your haircut ballooning to bouffant proportions lately, it is not all in your head.

Rising costs for labour, electricity and products are pushing the price of cuts, colours and blow-outs higher than ever.

And Perth hairdressers say they are stuck trying to avoid pushing prices even higher, while keeping the lights on.

Fatty Arbuckles Hair Artistry owner Annette Scaffidi said the industry was now “more challenging than ever”.

“On average, supplier costs have gone up by around 17 per cent annually, which is just impossible to fully pass on to clients without pricing ourselves out of the market,” she said. “We try to absorb costs for as long as we can, but inevitably adjustments need to be made.
