A memorial service for conservative activist Charlie Kirk took place on Sunday at State Farm Stadium in Arizona, just over a week after his murder shocked the political landscape. The event attracted tens of thousands of mourners, including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and several high-ranking administration officials who were scheduled to speak.
Kirk, 31, founded Turning Point USA at the age of 18 and became a significant conservative voice in the United States. His influence, particularly among young voters, played a crucial role in Trump's rise to the presidency. However, his views on issues such as gun violence, LGBTQ rights, and race often sparked criticism from liberals and other groups.
During the service, Tucker Carlson, a mentor to Kirk, praised him for his character. "There was no hate in his heart," Carlson said, adding that Kirk was "fearless to his last moment." He emphasized that attempts to silence Kirk would only make his legacy stronger. "As we proceed into whatever comes next -- and clearly, something's coming next -- remember this moment," Carlson stated.
Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff for policy, delivered impassioned remarks, declaring, "We are the storm." He warned those who oppose their values, saying, "You have no idea the dragon you have awakened. You have no idea how determined we will be to save this civilization, to save the West, to save this republic."
Sergio Gor, the nominee for U.S. Ambassador to India, described Kirk as someone who was "all Trump" and always ready to support the president's initiatives. "If you believe in America, stand up. If you believe Charlie Kirk represented the best of us, stand up," Gor urged the audience.
A remembrance video played during the service showcased Kirk's legacy, featuring footage of him with his family and his work with Turning Point USA. Narrated by his wife, Erika, the video included past remarks from Trump and Vance, as well as clips from a campus event at Utah Valley University, where Kirk was tragically shot. The crowd's chants of "Charlie Kirk" echoed in the background, highlighting the impact he had on his supporters.
