And that led to him making the decision to leave the Leafs via trade, but really by free agency.

This was classic spin-doctoring — taking a piece of slight truth and stretching it to sell a narrative that isn’t necessarily believable. Marner was never much on giving interviews during his time with the Leafs and, when doing so, rarely spoken of anything resembling depth.
