KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A special investigation is underway after officers with the Independence Police Department shot and killed a man early Sunday morning.
Around 1 a.m. on August 31, Independence officers were called to a small apartment building near 11600 E. Truman Road on a reported disturbance.
When the officers arrived, they found a man alone in the back seat of a car. They tried to talk to him to see if he was a part of the disturbance, but claimed that the man got agitated and pulled out a firearm.
The officers told the man to put down the weapon, but he did not comply and was shot.
According to IPD, the officers were still not sure if the man was a part of the initial disturbance call, so they carried him about 50 yards away to wait for paramedics to arrive. He died befor
