Ben Jealous claims racial bias led to his dismissal following sexual harassment allegations.
The Sierra Club, one of the nation’s largest and oldest environmental organizations, is at the center of a controversy following the dismissal of its former executive director, Ben Jealous. Jealous, who was the first Black leader of the organization, was fired in August after an internal review of his behavior prompted by a misconduct complaint from an employee.
The complaint alleged sexual harassment and verbal abuse. However, Jealous has stated that his removal was due to racial discrimination.
According to a Bloomberg report, the Sierra Club’s board of directors voted unanimously to remove Jealous after a complaint accused him of making unwelcome sexual remarks and engaging in verbal abuse.
