Authorities in Southern California have arrested two men linked to the theft of thousands of dollars in cash and checks from a wedding reception last week. The incident occurred on August 31 at a banquet hall in Glendale, California.
Glendale police identified Armean Shirehjini as the main suspect after reviewing video surveillance and other evidence. He was arrested on Thursday at his home in Sherman Oaks. Alongside him, police apprehended Andranik Avetisyan, who is believed to have acted as the getaway driver.
During searches of both men's residences, officers recovered a significant amount of cash and numerous checks made out to the couple whose wedding was being celebrated. Additionally, police seized several firearms and drugs from other locations.
Witnesses reported that the suspect was present at the reception for about 90 minutes, observing the dance floor. Just before midnight, he allegedly entered the banquet hall, took a gift box containing cash and checks, and exited the venue. Surveillance footage showed him getting into the passenger side of a black Mercedes SUV, which then sped away.
The victims estimated that the stolen box contained approximately $60,000 in cash and checks. "As soon as we found out what happened, you know, the music shut down, everything immediately stopped," said the bride, Nadeen Farahat. "I ended up sitting on the dance floor sobbing with my friends and cousins around me."
Police have not disclosed the specific charges the men may face and stated that the investigation is ongoing.
