Arizona State picked up in 2025 where it left off last season as a CFP quarterfinalist, thumping Northern Arizona in Saturday night's Week 1 opener. But the 38-19 win wasn't all good for bettors, as the Sun Devils failed to cover the 28.5-point spread and also gave up a late touchdown that flipped the O/U on a line of 52.5.
Northern Arizona could only muster 13 points through most of the game, but with 2:29 left in the fourth quarter, the Lumberjacks managed to drive 80 yards on their last possession to punch in one last score with just 22 seconds left in the game. That meaningless touchdown tanked the under.
There's nothing worse than a bad beat after dark, though that certainly wasn't the only one of the day.
Penn State bettors suffered a bad beat earlier in the day when the Nittany Lions similarly gave up a touchdown in the final 30 seconds of a 46-11 win over Nevada, losing the cover on a 42.5-point spread.
College football is so back.
