Four teens are facing charges in connection with an incident in which several police cruisers were struck as officers tried to stop a vehicle on Saturday.

Waterloo Regional Police said they received a complaint about driving on Highway 8, where the driver of a white Volkswagen hatchback, without licence plates, was alleged to be trying to prevent another motorist from exiting the highway and then followed them through the region.

Police said the Volkswagen ran a red light and drove the wrong way on an on-ramp near King Street East.

The driver then allegedly failed to stop for police and tried to flee before driving head-on into a police cruiser and striking two other police cars, according to police.

Two officers went to a local hospital with minor injuries.
