A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office as the UK braces for heavy rain and strong winds , signalling an end to the summer weather .

The remnants of Hurricane Erin will be hitting the country this coming week, with strong winds from the Atlantic and blustery showers expected to dominate.

The Met Office’s senior meteorologist Zoe Hutin said the beginning of September risked “bringing thunderstorms and strong winds at times”.

The yellow alert will be in place in southwestern Scotland, coming into effect in the early hours of Monday morning and remaining until 10am.

Up to 50mm of rain is due to hit some parts of the country as the weather develops into prolonged, heavy rainfall, according to the Met Office.
