Met Office issue verdict as UK enters 'meteorological autumn' with thunderstorm risk

Met Office weather forecasters have issued fresh predictions ahead of meteorological autumn, which kicks of tomorrow, Monday, September 1.

Brits can expect "temperatures near average", the Met Office has said, despite the possibility of of thunderstorms. In southwest Scotland, the Lothian Borders and Strathclyde, a yellow weather warning for rain has been issued from 3am until 10am tomorrow.

From the beginning of next week, the Met Office has warned conditions will remain "unsettled to start meteorological autumn", adding that showers and longer spells of rain are possible. The weather is also expected to be "windy throughout with the risk of thundery outbreaks".
