I’m currently researching and writing a history of the National Western Stock Show’s Catch a Calf program to mark its 90th year. The program began in 1935 with a group of boys who had entered the fat steer show that year. Among them were Joe Beauprez of Boulder, Harry Bostrom of Sterling, Harold DeBacker of Boulder, and Dwight and Robert Sheard of Joes.
Joe Beauprez came from a dairy farming family back when Boulder County was one of the state’s agricultural strongholds. Boulder County was flush with dairies at the time with Watts Hardy Dairy in town.
