Migrants could be housed in hotels in the Balearic island of Mallorca in "exceptional circumstances".

The Spanish government has allocated a budget for housing migrants in the Balearics which could include hotels, but has explained that they will only be used in "exceptional circumstances", reports Spanish news site Mallorca Daily Bulletin .

These exceptional circumstances mean if there is insufficient capacity in facilities designated for the housing of migrants.

The €6.7 million budget, which runs until the end of 2025, covers the creation of temporary care facilities in the Port of Palma and the start up of accommodation as well as services such as security and translation.
