A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy in Chicago’s Canaryville neighborhood last week.

According to authorities, the 15-year-old and a 12-year-old were involved in a physical altercation in a vacant lot in the 600 block of West 47 th Street Thursday afternoon when a person pulled out a weapon and opened fire.

The older child was shot in the hip, and was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.

The 12-year-old was shot in the chest, and was hospitalized in critical condition.

On Friday morning, Chicago police took 19-year-old Daniel Maiver into custody at his home in the 7400 block of South Harvard.

He has now been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempte
