LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Smiles From Heaven kicked off Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with their 4th annual Superheroes 5K.

Hundreds of people showed up, many dressed in superhero gear, to make this their biggest run so far.

The family-friendly event included plenty of activities before and after the race, such as pony rides, a petting zoo, face painting and a dunk tank.

The event was held to raise money and awareness for local children battling cancer and blood disorders.

The race and activities took place on Saturday, August 30, at North Central Park.
