After Matt Turner was left off the U.S. men's national team roster for its September friendlies, the goalkeeper sat down with WCVB to discuss his omission.
"Yeah, I was aware that obviously I wasn't going to go," the goalkeeper said. "I had a nice conversation with the coaching staff, and they thought it was important that I just had that consistency and keep settling in and keep playing well and pushing myself.
"They're going to take a look at a few guys, and then what comes in October will come and and we'll see."
The 31-year-old recently returned to the New England Revolution, having spent the past three years in England with Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.
Although he had served as the USMNT's starter since the 2022 World Cup, Turner found himself on the bench during the Gold Cup, with Mauricio Pochettino opting for New York City FC's Matt Freese.
This time around Turner wasn't even called in for matches against South Korea and Japan, with Freese, Jonathan Klinsmann and Roman Celentano on the squad.
Turner said that he now has his sights set on returning to the USMNT for October friendlies against Australia and Ecuador.
"I'm going to just keep working hard, keep trusting what the coaching staff have said to me and sent messages to me, and then just hopefully be back in October," he added.
In his second spell with the Revolution, Turner has won two of the four matches he has started, including keeping a clean sheet in his first start against D.C. United.
Turner conceded twice on Saturday as the Revolution fell 2-1 to Charlotte FC.
New England travels to Chicago to take on the Fire on Saturday. Currently, the Revs sit in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with 31 points in 28 matches played.
