The criticism of the Fargo Police Department by Commissioners Piepkorn and Turnberg regarding the shooting that occurred in Fargo, more specifically, the amount of time it took for them to arrange a press conference, if accurately reported, is frivolous and unwarranted.
Police work is serious and deadly and requires providing precise and accurate press information to the public. In order to do so adequate time is necessary to determine all of the relevant facts to the case in hand.
In my opinion, the police gave out timely information as they continued their investigation in this case. A more relevant concern should be if the department is adequately funded and staffed to deal with the violent, criminal behavior in the Fargo area.
