LEE COUNTY, Ala. ( WSFA ) - Opelika police have arrested two people on child sexual abuse charges that allegedly happened 15 years ago.

Police say they opened an investigation after the victims, now adults, came forward and reported the abuse they say they experienced as children over a period of several years.

During the investigation, detectives identified 64-year-old Michael Earl Adams and his wife, 56-year-old Malissa Denise Jolley Adams, both of Lee County, as suspects.

On Friday, Opelika Detectives, along with the Lee County SWAT Team, arrested both suspects at a residence in Beauregard.

Michael has been charged with first degree rape, two counts of first degree sodomy, two counts of sexual torture, and two counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.
