MANCHESTER, N.H. —

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani was seriously injured in a car crash in New Hampshire after helping a domestic violence victim, said Michael Ragusa, Giuliani's head of security.

The crash happened on Saturday after Giuliani was flagged down by a woman who was the victim of a domestic violence incident, according to a statement released Sunday.

Ragusa said Giuliani called police and stayed with the woman until help arrived.

Afterwards, Giuliani was driving on the highway when his vehicle was allegedly struck.

He was taken to a local hospital, where Ragusa said he suffered multiple injuries, including a fractured thoracic vertebrae.
