OXFORD, Miss. (WMC) - The Oxford Police Department is currently investigating an incident that took place overnight.

Around 12:47 a.m., officers were in the area of 2200 South Lamar Boulevard assisting with crowd control.

Police then heard what appeared to be gunfire and began immediately to secure the scene, check for injured persons, and identify who fired the potential gunshots.

One person has been taken into custody. There are no reported injuries at this time.

An investigation is ongoing to gather evidence and review video from nearby businesses and bystanders.
