Emergency responders were dispatched to Cultus Lake near Chilliwack for a second drowning incident within three days. The latest event occurred on Saturday, August 30, before 7:20 p.m. at Sunnyside Campground.

B.C. Emergency Health Services spokesperson Bowen Osoko confirmed that an air ambulance was sent to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. “An ambulance with primary care paramedics and an air ambulance helicopter with critical care paramedics were dispatched while bystanders provided initial emergency first aid,” Osoko stated.

One individual received emergency medical treatment at the site, but no patients were transported to the hospital. This incident follows a drowning on Thursday, August 28, when a man drowned in the Entrance Bay area of the popular summer destination.

Osoko noted that the ambulance service has responded to over 40 water-related calls since the beginning of August. “This is proving to be a challenging summer,” he said. He emphasized the importance of parental supervision, advising that parents should stay within arm's reach of their children in the water.

Osoko also highlighted that drowning can occur quietly and suddenly, often without the typical signs of distress. “Most of the more than 40 calls we have attended have not been fatal, but serious enough that we are deployed,” he added.

The Chilliwack Progress has reached out to local authorities for further information regarding the latest incident.
