HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. — The Kentucky State Police is investigating after an infant death was reported in the Emergency Department of the Harlan ARH Hospital, according to a release from the Harlan County Coroner's Office.

The office said it was told about the death on Aug. 30, with Coroner John Derrick Noe responding and pronouncing a 1-year-old child dead from a drowning.

"Due to the sensitivity and it involving a child, the Coroner's office will not release any other information on the matter," The coroner's office said.

KSP and the coroner's office are both investigating the death.

"The Coroner's office offers a debt of gratitude to ALL First Responders, Lifeguard Ambulance and the Staff of the Harlan ARH Emergency Department who did everything in their power to save this young child,"
