DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) -- A man who investigators claim tied up and killed his neighbor in her bedroom will stand trial next summer and could be put to death if he is found guilty.
District Attorney Kirke Adams says his office will seek the death penalty against James A. Johnson Jr.
Johnson Jr. is expected to stand before a jury of his peers in May 2026.
He is facing charges of capital murder during a rape and capital murder during a robbery in the death of 57-year-old Sherry Clark.
Sheriff Mason Bynum says Clark was found naked, bound, gagged, and dead inside her bedroom at her home on Dale County Road 79 in Midland City in early November 2024, after her father called for a welfare check. Clark had not shown up for work at a car rental agency in the Dothan Regional Airport.
