DeWitt, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- Four fire departments were called to a building fire in the Town of DeWitt on Sunday afternoon, the DeWitt fire chief says.

Just before 5:00p.m., DeWitt, East Syracuse, Fayetteville, and Manlius fire departments were dispatched the fire on East Genesee Street -- across the street from Wegmans. When crews arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke and flames from the building that houses three apartments and a small business. The DeWitt Fire Department says they then called for backup. Fire crews were able to put out the fire quickly.

Several other first responding companies responded to the scene. The area of East Genesee Street saw major traffic backups for over an hour while crews were at work.
