Two men were seriously injured in a targeted shooting in Scarborough on Sunday evening. Toronto police received reports of gunfire and a person with a firearm near Tansley Avenue and Paloma Place just before 5:15 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered two men in their 20s suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a trauma center in serious condition, with one facing potentially life-threatening injuries, according to Toronto paramedics.

Insp. Jeff Allington provided an update, stating that both victims were in critical condition and undergoing surgery on Sunday night. He noted that they were conscious before the procedure and were cooperating with police to provide information about the incident.

Authorities believe the shooting was targeted and have indicated that there is no immediate threat to the public. "People in the neighborhood can expect an increased police presence in the area over the next few hours and possibly the next few days," Allington said. He reassured residents, saying, "I understand how concerning this is to the people of Toronto, particularly those living in that neighborhood. We are dedicating as many resources as we can to solve this crime."

The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a light-colored vehicle. He is described as a 5-foot-10 man wearing all dark clothing. Police have not confirmed whether the suspect and the victims were acquainted.

Investigators are actively canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and video footage related to the shooting. They are urging anyone who was in the vicinity of Danforth Road between Lawrence and Eglinton avenues, especially between 5 and 6 p.m., to contact police at (416) 808-4300 or reach out anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

As a result of the incident, Tansley Avenue is closed at Danforth Road, and Seminole Avenue is closed west of Danforth Road.
