The Walkersville Southern Railroad has received a $56,800 grant as part of a new program from the Maryland Department of Transportation.

The project will involve a 100-year floodplain study in and around the railroad's yard at 34 W. Pennsylvania Ave. to look at what improvements are needed to support a potential infrastructure development project, according to a news release from MDOT.
