HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A persistent blanket of high clouds will cover the islands for Labor Day, with light to moderate trade winds bringing low clouds and showers for windward areas. Slightly stronger trades and stable conditions will prevail for much of the rest of the week as drier air returns.

Surf along south-facing shores will decline through Monday with background swells expected for the coming week. Surf on north shores will see a boost Monday, with another swell rising Monday night and peaking on Tuesday. East shore surf will remain on the small side with the lighter trades.

A First Alert for some minor coastal flooding during afternoon peak high tides toward the end of the week due to higher than predicted water levels.
