TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Wolves are very elusive animals, and in the state of Idaho, their populations have been declining for over six years.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game reports that since 2019, they have noticed a gradual decline in Idaho’s wolf population from around 1600 to an estimated 1200.

The reason for the decline is regulated hunting and trapping.

Idaho’s Fish and Game Large Carnivore Program Coordinator Cory Mosby said the decline is all a part of the department’s plan to manage the wolves’ population and keep it under control.
