ATLANTA — A 16-year-old was shot and killed in Atlanta's Glenrose Heights neighborhood Monday morning, police said, when he was mistaken for a burglar at his home.

11Alive's Dan Kennedy went to the scene, where Atlanta Police Homicide Commander Andrew Smith said the teen boy was coming in through the back door of the home, and a resident inside believed he was breaking in and opened fire. Police believe the shooter may have been the boyfriend of the boy's mom.

It happened at a home on Mulberry Row.

Police have not released the identity of the teen. They are currently looking for the boyfriend, who left the scene after the shooting.

No other immediate details are available at this time.
