ORLANDO, Fla. – The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of disturbed weather off the west coast of Africa.
As of Monday morning, the tropical wave has a 40% chance of development over the next seven days as it moves west across the Atlantic.
Forecasters with the NHC said the system could slowly develop and become a tropical depression by the weekend.
The system is not currently a threat to Central Florida, but the News 6 weather team is watching it closely as the peak of hurricane season -- Sept. 10 -- approaches.
Now is a good time to check your hurricane supplies and stay weather-aware.
