A magnitude 6.0 earthquake has killed more than 800 people in Afghanistan.

The epicentre appears to have been just outside the city of Jalalabad in the Eastern part of the country. The provinces of Nangarhar and Kunar are the worst affected. Tremors were felt 140km away in the capital Kabul and also over the border into neighbouring Pakistan.

Increasingly desperate attempts are still underway to pull out those trapped beneath their collapsed homes after the earthquake struck in Eastern Afghanistan late last night.

The greatest need now – more manpower to find those still underneath the rubble.
