WEST PORT, Minn. — Spring 2025 goes down as one of the windiest on record for large portions of the country from Minnesota to Florida and from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Washington, D.C.
About half the country broke records not seen since wind speeds started to be recorded in the 1980s for many of the locations, according to Accuweather.com. These wind events included 124 high wind watches and 164 high wind warnings in March 2025. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration highlighted extreme wind events from that month included the deadliest dust storm in Kansas history and the deadliest tornado day in Missouri since 2011.
