COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Hannibal High School cross country teams started their season at the COMO Kickoff at Gans Creek Recreation Area on Saturday morning, with the event being a 3K race hosted by Hickman High School.

The boys toed the line at 8 a.m. with the girls following at 8:25.

Midway through the race the boys had a tight pack made up of Rhett Hayes, Zach Locke, Colin Coniglio, Camden Gheens and Jonas Thompson. That would be the exact order they crossed the finish line. Hayes would place fifth overall, Locke was ninth, Coniglio 12th, Gheens 15th and Thompson 17th.

This earned the boys second place as a team, only to finish behind host Columbia Hickman, who are a returning MSHSAA Class 5 state qualifying team.
