HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - On this date in 1671, Thomas Woods and Fobert Fallows began an expedition that would result in settlers finding the New River in West Virginia for the first time.
They got a commission to provide the money and their mission was to find the ebbing and flowing of the water on the other side of the mountains to discover what they believed would be a south sea.
