The Federation of Agriculture plans to reach out to the the government to develop a standardized protocol for handling mass livestock evacuations.

This summer’s wildfire situation has put the issue front of mind for dairy and other livestock farmers.

When the Holyrood, CBN and Paddy’s Pond fires started bearing down on horse ranches and sheep and cattle farms, volunteers came together with livestock trailers to get animals out of evacuation zones, but federation president Wayne Simmons says the emergency helped to expose a lack of protocol in those type of situations.
