CAIRO, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A black bear reportedly attacked a man in Cairo Saturday night, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). The 63-year-old man was reportedly attacked when entering a part of his home.
According to the DEC, Environmental Conservation Police Officers found the man at a neighbor's house with a visible injury. ECOs said the bear, however, was already gone when they arrived.
The victim said the bear was in an entry room of his house where food and garbage were stored. According to the DEC, the man was unaware of the bear when he entered the room and was either "bit or scratched" when the bear attempted to leave.
According to ECOs, the man was taken to the hospital for his injury. Information on his condition were not available.
