WEATHERSFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) - Police are piecing together a home invasion case that led to a six-hour standoff.

Last Tuesday, police say they responded to an alleged assault at a home in Weathersfield.

But investigators determined the man who reported the crime was the suspect in a home invasion on nearby Route 5.

He was identified as Walter Wilkins, 56, of Weathersfield.

Police found him at a different home on Wheeler Camp Road on Thursday, but they say he barricaded himself inside for several hours.

He was eventually arrested and faces multiple charges, including kidnapping, burglary of an occupied dwelling, assault and robbery.

Wilkins is being held without bail and is due in court on Tuesday.
