ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) - The K-9 who was stabbed multiple times while arresting an attempted murder suspect on Thursday in York County was released from observation to go home and rest.

K-9 Apollo underwent surgery on Friday afternoon. He was home by Sunday.

Carolina Veterinary Specialists, Catawba Animal Clinic, and Rock Hill Carolina Vet Specialists all helped treat Apollo following the shooting and into surgery, Rock Hill officers said.

Apollo will rest for “the next few weeks” while he recovers.

What happened

The situation began around 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, when officers responded to a home on Martin Avenue in Rock Hill. A 56-year-old woman had reportedly called police, saying that 35-year-old Travonte Tate was attempting to stab her with a knife.
