A Pret a Manger café in Manchester was evacuated today after a man reportedly threw an unknown substance over another customer. The incident occurred around 1.15pm at the Oxford Street location, prompting a swift response from police and fire crews.
Witnesses described a scene of confusion as customers were urged to leave the café. According to reports, a male customer sprayed the substance from a bottle onto another customer's legs before fleeing the scene without paying for his food. Fortunately, the substance was later identified as a weak liquid, and no injuries were reported.
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their involvement, stating they were called to assist police at approximately 1.15pm. Investigations are currently ongoing, and police are treating the incident as a robbery. No arrests have been made so far.
One customer shared their experience on Reddit, stating, "[It] happened before I went in and before the cavalry arrived to clear the place. It didn't look much but then the cops and fire services came and evacuated while I was eating my butty, they didn't know what it was at the time."
