CHARLESTON, S.C. — Payback, it is said, is heck.

Not when Southern hospitality is involved.

In that case, payback is heaven.

Nobody knows better than North Dakota State fans Pat Thiel of Fargo and Rich McFarlane of Grand Forks.

Their trip to Charleston to watch the Bison play The Citadel in a season-opening football game Saturday, Aug. 30, was a whirlwind of high-rolling graciousness, syrupy South Carolina friendliness and, yes, a few cool beverages.

Thiel and McFarlane spent 36 hours in Charleston as the back end of a saga that began three years ago. That's when Collins Moe of Charleston, a Citadel graduate, was sent to Fargo in February as punishment for finishing last in his fantasy football league.
