Salford council's new chief executive has officially joined the local authority, nine months after its last boss left the town hall. Stephen Young has started his new job today (September 1), bringing with him more than 30 years of experience working in the public sector.
The former Halton council chief executive, who previously worked at Bolton council, started his career as a council tax recovery officer in Burnley. He will now be the head of paid service at Salford council and the, returning officer responsible for all elections in the city.
Alongside this, Mr Young will also become the place-based lead for health at the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA).
Mr Young is expected to earn an average salary of more than £185,000 a year, based on the latest figures on the counc
