As summer 2025 draws to a close, the Met Office has officially confirmed what many had anticipated - it was the hottest summer on record in the UK. Last week, experts had already suggested it was 'almost certain' this summer would set new temperature records, and the latest data has now made it official. ‌

This summer has seen four heatwaves and plenty of bright and sunny days which is a stark contrast to the UK's typically rainy summers. ‌

The UK’s mean temperature from 1 June to 31 August stands at 16.10°C, which is 1.51°C above the long-term meteorological average. This surpasses the previous record of 15.76°C, set in 2018, and pushes the summer of 1976 out of the top five warmest summers in a series dating back to 1884. ‌
