WATERLOO, Iowa — The Northeast Iowa Food Bank is rallying the community this September for Hunger Action Month, an initiative that unites people nationwide to combat hunger.
Executive Director Barbara Prather emphasized the urgency, noting, "The need has grown significantly in the past year, with more than 5,000 additional people struggling with food insecurity compared to last year."
Currently, over 45,000 people in the region, including 14,380 children, face food insecurity.
Community members can participate through various activities. Volunteering to sort and distribute food, attending events like Checker’s Stone Soul Picnic on September 7, and wearing orange on Hunger Action Day, September 9, are some ways to contribute.
