MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) --An Ohio man shot and killed while visiting Myrtle Beach's Sea Mist Resort earlier this year is due to a "trigger happy" security guard who chose force over safety, a newly filed lawsuit alleges.
Aaron Holston Jr., 23, died Feb. 4 at Grand Strand Regional Medical center after being shot inside his black Mazda sedan while in the hotel's parking lot.
The complaint filed last week in Horry County Common Pleas Court says Holston was approached by Stephen Ingate, who was working for security firm Global Investigative Services at the time. Ingate later said he confronted Holston because he smelled marijuana and saw the man smoking.
As Ingate attempted to pull Holston from the car, he switched from a Taser to his firearm, the lawsuit said, citing witnesses.
