WINDHAM, Maine (WABI) - Former Maine Senator and Walk a Mile in Their Shoes founder, Bill Diamond, has died.
In a press release from Walk a Mile in Their Shoes, they say Diamond passed away on Sunday.
In the release they say, “Bill gave his voice to children and families too often left without one. When systems failed, he demanded accountability. He challenged an entire community to stand up for those who could not stand up for themselves. Together we have.”
Diamond announced in a statement last week that he would be stepping back from day-to-day activities at the organization due to health reasons.
He served both in the Maine Senate and the Maine House.
He also was also the secretary of state from 1989 to 1996.
