HARLINGEN — We see them in the parks, along the streets and the expressway and the strip malls.
They push shopping carts filled with blankets and bags or move about in wheelchairs. They might have a dog to keep them company.
People without homes manage to live on the streets with little support, but the Northern Cameron County Democrats is doing what it can to feed them.
Volunteers for NCCD are meeting and cooking hot plates of food for homeless people in different parts of the city, said Norma Fitzgerald, a member of the organization.
“A lot of us felt we wanted to do more, do things that served the community,” Fitzgerald said. “We started it three months ago but we have already set up the program so we will do it the last Sunday of the month.”
