WILSON'S MILLS, N.C. (WTVD) -- Wilson's Mills Police said Monday that they are investigating after human remains were found in a wooded area of Johnston County.

A group of teenagers made the discovery Saturday afternoon while playing in the woods near Fire Department Road and Lockwood Drive, police said.

Police said the person appears to have been dead for several years. The remains were taken to the Office of the State Medical Examiner in Raleigh for analysis and identification.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is assisting with the case.
