KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. — A Kings Mountain police officer was arrested Sunday following a domestic incident at his home, authorities said.

Officer Edward Ray Padgett, 37, was taken into custody Aug. 31 in connection with the incident, according to a press release from the Kings Mountain Police Department. Padget is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was requested to conduct an independent investigation into the matter, following standard protocol. Based on the SBI's preliminary findings, Padgett was formally charged with the felony.

Padgett was initially transported to Cleveland County for questioning before being transferred to the Lincoln County jail, where he is being held without bond. He is scheduled
