YOSEMITE (KSEE/KGPE) - Over 97% of park rangers, educators, researchers, fee collectors, first responders, firefighters and other staff at Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks voted in favor of unionizing, the National Federation of Federal Employees (NFFE) announced.
On Aug. 28, the NFFE announced that its field staff led a "successful" campaign, working alongside the internal organizing committee to ensure unionizing.
An election was held during the peak of summer, from July 22 to Aug. 19. Officials say that time period allowed both parks to have their highest staff levels and ensured both permanent and seasonal employees had the opportunity to vote.
The Federal Labor Relations Authority certified the results of the election, adding approximately 600 workers to the union.
